Stargazing
Leonids Meteor Shower 2022
Date: 18 November 2022 (Friday night)
Time: 10:00 PM - 3:00 AM
Location: Al Qudra Desert - Dubai
Fee: AED 70 - AED 120
Join us at Al Qudra Desert on the evening of the 18th of Nov 2022 to learn more about our night sky and observe different planets and objects through our telescopes with a chance of observing a meteor shower.
The Leonid meteor shower is annually active in the month of November and it usually peaks around November 17 or 18. We’re hosting our evening on the night of the 18th and the morning of the 19th (on a weekend). The shower is called Leonids because its radiant, or the point in the sky where the meteors seem to emerge from, lies in the constellation Leo.
This year, due to the moon, the meteors are not expected to be as clear as on a moonless night which is why we’re calling it a stargazing event with the potential of seeing meteors. This is the part where we are trying to manage your expectations.
The Leonids occur when the Earth passes through the debris left by Comet Tempel-Tuttle. The comet takes around 33 years to make one orbit around the Sun. The rate of meteors per hour for the Leonids is 10 meteors per hour.
