Supermoon + Quadrantids 2026

Kick off the New Year on 3 January in the Al Qudra Desert under the January Wolf Supermoon and the Quadrantids meteor shower. While the bright moon will unfortunately dim the smaller meteors, we’re hoping to catch the brighter ones throughout the evening. Enjoy a guided talk on the meteor shower, a sky-mapping session exploring constellations, and a Q&A, as we observe the night sky through telescopes.
The shower owes its name to the now-defunct constellation Quadrans Muralis. The constellation was left off a list of constellations drawn out by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) in 1922, but because the shower had already been named after Quadrans Muralis, its name was not changed. The Quadrantids is also sometimes called Bootids after the modern constellation, Boötes.
The Quadrantids are associated with asteroid 2003 EH1. The asteroid takes about 5.5 years to orbit around the Sun.

- 11:45 PM – Talk: Quadrantids Meteor Shower
- 12:30 AM – Sky Mapping Session (Stories about the Constellations)
- 01:00 AM – Q & A Session
- 02:00 AM – Peak of the Meteor Shower starts
- Telescope Observation throughout the night of the Moon, Jupiter, and Deep sky objects.
- Phone photography through the telescopes.

bathrooms are a 10-min drive away
Public bathrooms are at Al Qudra Last Exit, a 10-mins drive away from the event location.
CARRY ANY NECESSITIES YOU MIGHT DEEM NECESSARY
Although we will be providing mats and water, you are requested to carry any necessities you might deem necessary over the period of the event (snacks, jackets, seats, etc.) for your comfort.
REGISTRATION MUST BE DONE IN ADVANCE
No registration will be accepted/allowed at the venue.

A 4x4 car is not required to reach the event location

Kids under the age of 5 don't require a ticket
We don’t recommend bringing kids under the age of 5 to our events.

Meteors will not be visible through the telescopes
Meteors travel across the sky too quickly to be viewed through telescopes, making them best seen with the naked eye.

The weather will be cold and windy so please prepare/dress accordingly.
