Discover the magic of the cosmos at Jebel Jais, the UAE’s highest peak! Join us on August 12th for a special event to witness the stunning Perseids meteor shower. This unique stargazing experience offers the opportunity to learn about constellations and gaze at celestial objects through telescopes, away from the city’s glow at an exclusive location.
The Perseids are one of the brighter meteor showers of the year. They occur every year between July 17 and August 24 and tend to peak around August 9-13.
Made of tiny space debris from the comet Swift-Tuttle, the Perseids are named after the constellation Perseus. This is because the direction, or radiant, from which the shower seems to come in the sky lies in the same direction as Perseus. The Perseids are widely sought after by astronomers and stargazers because most years at its peak, one can see 60 to 100 meteors in an hour from a dark place.

- 10:15 PM – Event Introduction
- 10:45 PM – Talk: Perseids Meteor Shower
- 12:30 AM – Sky Mapping Session (Stories about the Constellations)
- 01:00 AM – Q & A Session
- Naked-eye observation of the meteors throughout the night.
- Telescope Observation all throughout the evening (Saturn and deep sky objects)
- Phone photography of celestial objects through telescopes
Important Information
The venue for the event is Jebel Jais - RAK
A precise location pin will be sent by email after you register for the program.
A 4x4 is not required to reach the location
Registration MUST be done in advance
No registration will be accepted/allowed at the venue.
