Get ready for one of the most captivating celestial displays of the decade. On September 7–8, 2025, the Moon will be bathed in a deep red glow for an astonishing 82 minutes of totality—making it one of the longest and most photogenic lunar eclipses in recent memory. Nearly 87% of the world’s population will have a chance to witness at least a portion of this rare event. Whether you’re joining us at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library or streaming from home, here’s how you can experience it to the fullest.

What’s a Lunar Eclipse?

A lunar eclipse happens when the Earth comes directly between the Sun and the Moon, casting its shadow over the Moon.

=

How Rare Is It?

Total lunar eclipses don’t happen often, and the Blood Moon effect makes them one of the most breathtaking celestial events.

=

What’s a Blood Moon?

During totality, the Moon turns a deep red or orange color because sunlight bends through Earth’s atmosphere — the same effect that makes sunsets red.

=

How to Watch?

No special glasses or equipment are needed — just look up! To enhance the experience, use binoculars or telescopes.

=

How Long Does It Last?

This is the longest total lunar eclipse since 2022 – totality will last a remarkable 82 minutes, making it one of the longest total lunar eclipses in recent history.

=

Where is the Eclipse visible?

Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa, West in North America, East in South America, Pacific, Atlantic, Indian Ocean, Arctic, Antarctica.
